Acupuncture is a traditional system of medicine. It is
a tried and tested healthcare system that has been practised for over
two thousand years. It is particularly suited to modern life in that
physical, emotional and psychological well being are seen as
interdependent and the focus is on the whole individual rather than
their symptoms alone.
An Acupuncturist will look at pain and illness as
signs that the body is out of balance. This being the case, health may
be restored by using very fine, sterile needles in specific points to
stimulate, move or reduce the flow of energy so that the body can begin
to heal itself.
Many people find the experience of acupuncture
extremely relaxing and although some are initially nervous about the
needles, most patients would describe acupuncture as a dull sensation
and some feel very little sensation at all. Many of my patients love the
experience of acupuncture and find it deeply relaxing, some are nearly asleep for most of the treatment!
